August 21, 2006
The August meeting of the Sault Area Garden Club was a potluck picnic held a Cathie Chenowith’s home.
The business meeting was called to order at 8:50 by President Kate Marshall.
It was announced that last year’s scholarship winner, Drew Afton had applied for, and received the club scholarship. Many members expressed enjoying reading his letter of application and it was suggested that he be invited to speak at a future meeting.
The club received a thank you note from Nancy Steinhaus from the Sault Historical Society for the gardening work done at the John Johnson house.
It was noted that several members had been featured in or had written articles for the Evening News. Those members were Marcy Misner, Andree Watson, and Linda Carrick.
The quilt guild donated a library cart to our club for use by our club for loanable materials, a big thanks to Cheryl Shaul for her assistance.
There was considerable discussion and ideas regarding Downtown Development’s request for additional gardening help. One of the suggestions was to use some of the Sault Locks park plantings in Augusta Hursley Seal /Weber Park once they had been divided and separated.
