The Co-President, Phyllis Bigelow welcomed 36 members and guests at approximately 7:00 p.m. Following the potluck, the business meeting was held Joan Clark, Treasurer, gave the July and August Treasurer’s report. Several thank you letters were read by the President. They included the following: Phyllis reports that a new logo is set to go and items can be purchased from All Star Graphics with the Garden Club logo. A discussion was held by members regarding the Community Gardens. Ten plots were purchased by the Garden Club this year and only 5 were utilized. A motion was made by Paula Jarosz and supported by Kate Marshall that Garden Club donate up to 10 gardens for 2010 as requested. Motion carried. A discussion was also held regarding that this donation should be advertised more to allow people wanting and needing a plot to have the opportunity to obtain one. Steve Gregory spoke to the Garden Club and answered questions from the members regarding the planters on the Business Spur and also his vision for a City Botanical Garden. Regarding the planters on the Business Spur, Steve stated that bulbs will be added to the planters this fall and that more annuals will be planted in the spring. Steve reported that his vision for a City Botanical Garden will cost the city approximately $350,000 to $400,000. The location planned is next to McCoy Marina and the Camp Ground. He stated that a Master Plan needs to be in place first. However, he envisions a future waterfront walkway, a greenhouse learning center with a walkway to the water with plants from exotic to natural. This will also be a place to go in the winter and enjoy plants and a waterfall. He has hopes that Garden Club members will take an interest and assist in the project. The September Garden Club meeting will be held Monday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. James Church. The meeting will include a plant and seed exchange along with a demonstration by Bev Youngs on how to plant and force bulbs for indoor color in the winter months. Following the business meeting, members roamed the greenhouses for fantastic bargains offered by Steve. Andree Watson, Recording Secretary
