February 20, 2006

The February meeting of the Sault Area Garden Club was held on February 20, 2006 at the St. James Church with 29 members present. President Kate Marshall called the meeting to order and the minutes of the January meeting were read. Andree Watson made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Ruth Molino. Joan Clark gave the Treasurer’s report. A balance of $1, 164.20 was reported.

Charla Gordon gave an interesting presentation on Aroma Therapy and the process that she and her partner have experienced in developing their products into a business. She provided some samples for us to try.

Bonnie Skoryanc had delivered the club library materials prior to the meeting and Bev Youngs explained the borrowing system. She also indicated that Linda Carrick had donated some additional books.

The members discussed an appropriate memorial for Pat Artley. Diane McDonald made a motion for a plant with a plaque to be donated to Pat’s church as well as a gardening book to be donated to Bayliss Library. Dollars to be spent were at the board’s discretion. The motion was seconded by Andree Watson and approved by the membership.

During show and tell, Dorothy Dansdill displayed a cutting from a Mountain Laurel and Bev Youngs displayed a Red Pine which can be identified by it’s two long needles. Paula Jarosz described how her Tree Peony is now blooming indoors. Paula had won the plant at a previous Garden Club raffle.
Ruth Molino also shared a picture of her white Christmas Cactus. Cheryl Shaul also told of forcing Narcissus.

It was reported that Brenda Weber from the Evening News has invited club members submit gardening articles for publication in the paper.

A suggestion was made to invite the Slayters to give a presentation at our April meeting.

Thank you notes have been received for Andrea Berry and from Gary Artley.March 3, 2006

Dorothy Dansdill asked club members for input on seeking applicants for our scholarship. She will once again contact LSSU for potential applicants.

Refreshments were provided Lois Hillock, Patty Paquette, and Charlene McDonald. Kate Marshall and Linda Carrick supplied raffle items.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30.
