The march meeting of the Sault Area Garden Club was held March20, 2006 at the St. James Church with 29 members present. The meeting was called to order by President Kate Marshall, the minutes of the February meeting were read. Motion was made by Susan Harries seconded by Lois Hillock to approve. Motion carried. The Treasurer’s report was given by Joan Clark showing a balance of $1,170.20. Motion to approve treasurer’s report was made by Paula Jarosz and seconded by Bev Youngs to approve. Motion carried.
Brenda Weber and Raulaniesa Aranda from The Evening News asked if anyone would be interested to submit gardening articles for publication in the Lifestyle Page. They want to feature a colores garden picture and article every Friday beginning may 19th. They left e-mail and telephone numbers for further information.
The speaker for the evening was Jim Lucas from MSU Extension Service. He informed us on testing your soil and what we should and should not use to fertilize. He answered any questions we had.
Bev Youngs purchased “The Trees and Shrubs for Gardening in Michigan” book in memory of Pat Artley. Bev will bring it to the library.
Linda Carrick gave a compiled total numbers of 475 hours of volunteered hours at the Soo Locks Flower Gardens to the Soo Locks Board meeting.
Karen Cook attended the Bay Cliff meeting and asked if we would be interested in making a donation to this camp for disabled students. Kate marshall said they would discuss about making a donation at the April Board meeetin.
Dorothy Dansdill asked if anyone was interested in helping April 22, at the St. James Tea. They would like volunteers to work in different stations to answer questions on gardening, annuals, perennials, houseplants, berries, etc.
Show and Tell for this month was beautiful African Violets of Ruth Moline, Kristen McDonald brought a lovely violet, Jean Sylvestre had her pretty African Violet, and Paula Jarosz brought pictures of her beautiful Peony tree.
Thank you note was received from Charla Gordon. She also sent three raffle gifts. Refresnments were provided by Cheryl Shaul and Linda Beaumont. Bev Youngs and Dorothy Dansdill supplied raffle items. The meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
