Sault Area Garden Club Minutes We met in the church undercroft for our regular meeting which was called to order by President Nancy Fenlon. 28 members attended. Minutes were read by Phyllis Bigelow, with a motion to accept by Paula Jaroz and seconded by Jeanne Smith; approved. The treasurer’s report was read by Joan Clark and shows a balance of $1278.44. Jeff Stefanski was our featured speaker and he did an interesting and thorough job explaining what he knows about growing local plants. He mentioned the city beautification committee has been disbanded, but still sees a need for making the Sault more appealing to visitors with colorful plants downtown and in private gardens. He is an advocate of community gardens with raised beds to make their cultivation easier, and of the much discussed community canal walk which may be constructed. Nancy asked again for someone to assume the presidency, and Phyllis Bigelow and Cindy Lewis agreed to share the position. Our evergreen workshop will be December 13 from 10 to noon. Bring containers, greens, ribbon, clippers, etc. Our Christmas party meeting will be a potluck of appetizers and desserts and coffee. We are to bring a wrapped $10 gift. Carol Askwith received a nice note from a tourist who appreciated the beauty of the Portage Avenue gardens. It was read to the club. November raffle prizes were provided by Linda Metrish, Paula Jaroz, and Phyllis Bigelow. Refreshments were provided by Nancy Fenlon, Susan Harries, Linda Metrish, Joanne Landini and Paula Jaroz.
